Tyson J. Askew is an educator, mentor, and advocate teacher student relationships. His passion for teaching and education has taken him from being a statistical failure, not completing his high school diploma, to becoming a Ph.D. candidate. Learning from his years of personal experiences in the classroom he has formed a system and theory that promotes student motivation and efficient learning no matter what subject is presented. Tyson continues to teach and mentor youth and young adults who are searching for their path in education. While obtaining his masters and Ph.D. he has exclusively concentrated his research on the vital importance of effective teacher student relationships. As an advocate for teacher student relationships, Tyson has helped educators to gain a greater sense of self-efficacy and a renewed passion for education. In his career, Tyson has been privileged to teach all grade levels from Kindergarten through 12th grade and has been the recipient of many acknowledgments, certifications, and awards in education; but his most favorable honor of all is the look of “I got it” from his students!

“Neglected Prospects” is a collection of life significant events that are shared to bring more awareness to the forbidden concept of teacher-student relationships. The notion of having a close bond with a student in this generation is egregiously shunned due to the historical mishaps of a few unethical educators that were involved in inappropriate relationships and interactions with our young leaders.

Our students miss holistic educational experiences when outstanding, ethical, professional educators neglect the idea of a bond with students who need more than reading, writing, arithmetic, a syllabus, a rubric, and a grade.  Tyson J. Askew was one of those students who needed more… You know, the kid that isn’t in the top 10%, but he isn’t one of the hellraisers either. He’s among the 80% in the middle that

deserve cultivating. This 80% is easily cultivated yet easily devastated.   In this book, Tyson reveals how some educators in his life abandoned the idea of cultivating a healthy teacher-student relationship. Educators allowed him to pass through their hands without a significant meaningful connection that could have made the difference of potentially being a rising star, but unfortunately lead to being a high school dropout. His personal experiences from a high school dropout to a doctoral candidate, gives voice to a framework and the importance of healthy teacher-student relationships. This book is also a resource for anyone who is lost in life knowing that they have potential, talents, and gifts. Through famous education scenarios, Tyson Askew’s personal experiences, and deep reflection we will cultivate practical principles of healthy student teacher relationships that leads to success.

“Take ownership!”

The worst look of a
classroom is that one student,
sitting in their desk …lost and confused. But
then to see the look of a teacher or even more devastating
to hear the words “…this is your grade, not mine”! The teacher not
once thinking that the student is a product of their classroom and educational practices. Every lacking student or failing student is the result of a teacher’s classroom. Take ownership!
